Maschine2LR costs nothing and has no licence key, no trial and no locked features. It exists because I wanted knobs on Lightroom and spent my evenings on it. The evenings continue: every Lightroom update, every Windows update, every idea from a user. If it earns a place on your desk, a donation is what keeps that going. First time, in this order
- Swap the USB driver on two of the controller's interfaces with Zadig, once per machine. The manual walks you through it; it takes a few minutes and can be undone.
- Unpack the zip somewhere in your user profile (not
C:\Program Files, which is read-only). It is one folder,Maschine2LR, and there is no installer. StartMaschine2LR.exein it. On this first start it puts the Lightroom plugin where Lightroom Classic loads it by itself, and a notification says so. - Start Lightroom Classic. The tray status says when the Maschine is connected.
Updating
- Quit Maschine2LR (tray menu) and close Lightroom Classic.
- Unpack the new zip over the old folder. Your profiles and settings live in
%APPDATA%\maschine2lrand are not touched. - Start
Maschine2LR.exe; it brings Lightroom's copy of the plugin up to date. - Start Lightroom Classic.
Everything else is in the manual. The program checks GitHub once a day and tells you when a newer version is out.
If Windows warns
SmartScreen may ask about a program it hasn't seen often: More info → Run anyway. Smart App Control on a fresh Windows 11 installation may block it outright. The zip contains nothing but the program, the plugin and the shipped profiles; the SHA-256 above lets you check that the file is the one that was published.
What's new in 4.29.0
Fixed
- The scrollbar under the drawn controller is gone. The drawing's box came out a fraction of a pixel smaller than the scaled drawing, which was enough for one on every big monitor; the box is rounded up now and sideways scrolling is switched off wherever the drawing fits, which is everywhere but a window too narrow for it at its smallest. A tooltip's hidden box no longer counts towards the page's width either, which gave the whole page a sideways scrollbar at some widths.
Changed
- Dragging a binding and Copy to… work on one layer at a time. A drag moves what the drawing shows: with Shift off, the control's plain binding, with its Shift binding left where it is; with Shift on, only the Shift binding. Copy to… copies the layer the form's tab is on and leaves the other layer in the target profiles as it was. Both used to take both layers together, which made it impossible to rearrange one layer without dragging the other along.
What you need
- A Native Instruments Maschine Mk3. Other Maschine models have different hardware and are not supported.
- Windows 10 or 11. A macOS version is not planned at the moment.
- Lightroom Classic (not the cloud Lightroom or Lightroom mobile, which don't take plugins like this).
- A few minutes for the one-time USB driver swap. While the swap is in place, NI's own software cannot use the Maschine; the manual shows how to revert.
